12 Jun BGCGSD 4S Branch Youth of the Year
Vivian Chung was recently recognized as the 2017 Youth of the Year at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego (BGCGSD) 4S Ranch Branch. Each month throughout the year the club recognizes one or two students who have demonstrated excellence in their character, leadership, academic success, and healthy lifestyle choices. At the end of the school year, one of these students is chosen as the Youth of the Year. “At the end of the school year we recognize these students and announce our Youth of the Year award,” explained Emily Mitchell, 4S Ranch Branch Manager. “This year we had three students share speeches they wrote about the Boys & Girls Club.”
“From the first time I walked through the Boys & Girls Club double doors when I was six years old to now, the same feeling of comfort and security washes over me,” Vivian said in her speech. “This is a facility where I can express myself freely and feel safe at the same time. A place with staff who I can always talk to and not be judged, and, most importantly, a place where there is someone to always push me to thrive, not only as a better student, but as a well-rounded person of exemplary character.”
