5 San Diego Date Night Ideas

San Diego is a lively city full of exciting activities, great restaurants and fun bars! It’s hard to be bored in this beautiful southern California area. San Diego is even more fun to explore with someone else! Whether you need ideas for a first date, or you want to take your spouse of 20 years outs, these date night ideas are great for everyone! We’ve mixed in some good ideas for day dates and night time dates!

Picnic on the Beach

It doesn’t get much more romantic than this. Pack a picnic and grab a blanket then head down to any of the beautiful beaches at Cardiff-by-the-Sea. It’s a beautiful place to watch the sunset, and even though it’s a public area it’s easy for a beach picnic to feel secluded and special. To make things extra romantic you can even pack some wine and chocolate covered strawberries for dessert! This is a popular anniversary date for a reason.

Baseball Game at Petco Park

Classic date idea, but it’s still as cute as ever. With only a few weeks left of the baseball season, get your tickets soon. Grab some cheap tickets, or spend a little more money and get nice seats, and take your date to a baseball game at Petco Park! Regardless whether the Padres are your team of choice or not, it’s still a fun experience and definitely a great way to spend time together. There’s just enough down time to have great conversation, but enough excitement that the date will never get boring. There are plenty of cheap or gourmet dining options at Petco Park, so no need to worry about eating before hand.

Hammond’s Gourmet Ice Cream

If your spouse has more of a sweet tooth then Hammond’s is the perfect date spot! After a nice dinner, surprise your date with a flight of ice cream at Hammond’s. There are three locations throughout San Diego, so just pick the one closest to you! Hammond’s offers over 300 different flavors of ice cream, so it’s not hard to find something you’ll like! This is one of our favorite ideas for a first date. It’s a great way to end the night!

Kayaking/Paddleboarding at Coronado

Is your partner adventurous? A great way to spend the day together is to rent some kayaks or paddleboards and take advantage of the beautiful beaches of San Diego. Although it is not exactly easy to have back-and-forth conversation on the ocean, this date can easily be finished off with a tasty meal at one of Coronado’s many beach cafes and restaurants.

The zoo is not just for younger children. A day trip to one of America’s most famous zoos can be a great day date! Walking around the zoo is not only interesting but also allows the opportunity for great conversation. There are also plenty of eating/drink options at the zoo so you can either plan a meal before, or just rely on those!
